Ghostwriting Services
I sincerely believe the greatest gift we give ourselves and others is to share the truth about our lives. However, writing a book can take more resources than you may have right now. Do you have a great idea for a book, but you don’t have the time, capacity, or confidence to bring it to your readers? Ghostwriting to the rescue!
Ghostwriting offers you the opportunity to make your book idea into a reality while helping you to clarify and deepen the story you have to tell. While I’ll be the one actually putting the words on the page, we’ll work very closely together throughout the course of the book so that you’re involved every step of the way, making sure that the finished product aligns with your values, dreams, and vision.
While every ghostwriting project is a little bit different, the milestones of our work together will include:
+Getting to know one another.
This helps me understand how your brain works so I can reflect your thinking in the writing and gives you the space to clarify your dreams for the manuscript.
+Deciding on the structure
We’ll co-create a blueprint for the book so we know what kind of house we’re building before we hammer a single nail.
+Conversation and review along the way
Once the writing begins, I’ll submit chapters at agreed-upon milestones. That is, I won’t disappear for months at a time and return with something you don’t recognize as your story.
Do I need a ghostwriter?
Is ghostwriting right for you? Here are some questions to help you decide:
How long have you been thinking about writing a book?
How long have you been saying, “I’m going to write that book!”? How long have your friends and family been saying, “Gosh, this would make a great book” but you still have nothing written? Have you been thinking about this project for more than a year? More than ten years? Ghostwriting can turn your book from wish to reality.
How much do you love the act of writing?
Do you like to write?
If the idea of actually sitting down and writing fills you with more anxiety and dread than excitement and joy, it’s time for a ghostwriter.
If you love to write, but you just need some structure and discipline, you might want to consider book coaching.
If you already have a manuscript, but it just needs work, you’re probably in the market for a book editor.
Not sure? Let’s chat and we’ll see what feels right.
Do you have the time to get your story right?
How much time do you really have to see this project to fruition? Even though I’ll be taking on the bulk of the work on your project, ghostwriting is still a huge investment of your time, but it transfers the burden of organization and writing to someone who cares about getting the job done.
What is it like to work with me?
I will never farm your story out to someone else. When you hire me, you work with me. But what will that work together look like?
Chemistry Check: First we’ll start with a quick phone call. During this conversation, we’ll get to know each other and suss out if it feels right to move forward. I’ll ask you questions about the book you’re envisioning; You’ll ask me questions about anything you want! If it doesn’t feel like we’re a good fit, I’ll offer alternative options for you to continue to move forward. I’m excited for you to get your book written, even if it’s not me doing it.
Proposal: I’ll craft a proposal covering our work together (including cost, timeline, word goals) for your review and approval.
Initial Project Outline: We’ll meet a few times to create a general outline for the book. This will be based on your initial concept, in recognition of what other books out there yours might be in conversation with, and in alignment with your budget.
Research: This includes, depending on the scope of the book, extensive interviews with you and/or reading other books and articles, and fine-tuning our approach.
Final book outline: Once the research is complete, we’ll have one last conversation about the outline of the book, this time more detailed and specific.
Book draft: Now it’s time to write the book! I’ll submit work to you as I go along (based on agreed-upon milestones), so you’re aware of how the book is developing. I won’t disappear for months and return something you don’t recognize.
Author revision: Once the draft is in your hands, you’ll go through the manuscript to check for anything that feels “off” to you, or that needs clarifying or amplifying. Ghostwriting is so personal, it’s very unlikely I’ll get everything perfect on the first go. Here’s where your input is vital!
Final draft: You’ll receive an edited, ready-to-publish manuscript!
